Teaching is an interesting profession that challenges the individual teacher to adapt to changes and integrate new ideas in the classroom daily. It is a profession that requires flexibility and as a consequence having an open minded approach towards the challenges ahead becomes very important when it comes to constructing your philosophy and how you view your classroom. With that said I would like to say that
I do not lean towards a specific philosophy but I fall within three categories, the idealist, realist, and pragmatist philosophies of which each embraces important aspects that I view as being important in my future as a teacher. I believe that every teacher entering the classroom should possess certain qualities that will promote positive learning outcomes.
I also believe that a teacher is a role model not only within the school but also outside of the school where the community is carefully observing them and where they are judged by society. Applying democratic methods in the classroom has shown that students learn better and are more successful and as a result it is important to expose the student to this method in the classroom through the use of technology and other resources. The realist’s idea of using multiple classroom management techniques within the classroom will promote respect and safety for each student as a safe learning environment equals success. By combining all three philosophies I hope that I will be able to be a positive element in the educational system.
